Monday

I'm taking a little blogger break for some of this week.  Maybe just a couple of days, we'll see.  Maybe I'll end up with time to post after all...

We're going on a mini vacation (just a day really) boat trip and stuff in the Wisconsin Dells.  And then Grandma and Grandpa are taking Katie and I to a concert Wednesday night.  So, I'll be on the road plenty, tomorrow and Wednesday.

-I brewed my coffee about 7 hours too early last night... what was I thinking??? I was just getting the coffee ready for the morning before I went to bed, I didn't mean to push the button...

Fresh Salsa

I should have shared this recipe way back at the beginning of the summer, and I kept meaning to but never got to it... sorry!
I'm celebrating because my grocery store just started stocking my favorite tortilla chips!  Plocky's Red Beans and Rice Tortilla Chips  so, so yummy... especially with fresh salsa so here we go...

I absolutely LOVE fresh salsa.  The wonderful thing about it is you can make it however you like it.

Here's my base recipe:

Vine-ripened garden tomatoes, diced
1 whole onion.  diced. I like red onions myself, but this time I used a white one because it was all we had.  You can really use whatever kind of onion you like.
1/2 jalapeno pepper (depending on the size of the pepper) diced very finely.  Garden peppers are prefered of course, but if for some reason your garden and peppers didn't get along very well this year (*sniff) you can use the store bought kind.  I guess....

1 Handful of cilantro, chopped finely.  I don't care how much it costs, fresh cilantro is TOTALLY worth it.  Don't even think about using the dried kind in the shaker.

1 clove garlic, diced very finely

The juice of 1/2 a lime. or a whole lime.  whatever.

Salt and Pepper to taste.
Whatever other seasonings you like.  I like to use cumin, spike, sometimes a little brown sugar... whatever I'm in the mood for.

So, that's my base recipe.  You can add whatever you like from here on out.  Here's some suggestions:
Black Beans
Corn
Raspberries
Green Peppers
Yellow Peppers
Have fun with it!

New Fall Stuff

Template and Profile Picture.
What do you think?

Indian Summer Supper

I refuse to start making fall foods.  I don't care if I do have apples sitting on my counter screaming APPLE COBBLER at me... although, I'll definitely get to the cobbler, don't worry...

I'm just not ready to say goodbye to summer, yet. And since the weather yesterday was in the 80s, in spite of what the calender says, I'm inclined to think God agrees with me.  :)

So, in a final summer fling I served Guacomole Bacon Burgers for dinner last night.

                                                                             YUMMY!

Coming tomorrow...
FRESH SALSA!

Absolute and Unquestionable

"We have to get to the point of
absolute and unquestionable relationship
that takes everything exactly as it comes from Him.
God never guides us at some time in the future,
but always here and now.
Realize that the Lord is here now,
and the freedom we receive is immediate."

Starbucks Chocolates: A Review

If the words "Caffe Mocha Truffles" don't make your mouth water... you may need to see a doctor.

I have been seeing the advertisements for these truffles for about a month now and my interest was definitely piqued.  But, I'm sorry... $6 for 10 pieces of candy?  I'm not made of money, people.

So, I was at my local Walgreens the other day, checking out with a package of AAA's  and cotton balls and saw these tempting delicacies on SALE!  A 2-for sale even!!  So, I snatched some up.  And went right home and broke them open.

And they were delish, people....  Get some.

Dr. Jak's Fall Fashion Tips

The new fall trend:
Patterned tights under capris.  Keeps your legs warmer so you can wear your capris longer.
Ballet flats.
Cardigan sweaters are wonderful layering pieces.  The outfit works with or without the sweater so if I get warm mid-afternoon I can go without.
Hats are good for bad hair days.  Any season.

I'm tired

you know the feeling?
just tired.
not necessarily physically tired.
just tired.
maybe tired of thinking.
or tired
of thinking about the same things.
and tired
of all the pain
just tired
of everything being the same
but tired
of being afraid of something new
and tired
of being tired.

New Gadget

As you may notice there is a new gadget on the top right of the blog.  My "followers" list.  *ahem*

Here's how that happened.  My friend Maureen became a "follower" of my blog.  I didn't know what a "follower" was until I saw in my dashboard that she was one.  Of course, I don't mind at all as Maureen is awesome.  :)  So, I saw this little option to add the followers list to my blog.  So, if any of you want to become "followers" you can do it too, and be like Maureen, who as I mentioned before is awesome.  :)

The whole "follower" concept is cracking me up... but if you're a reader and a blogger, this is actually a pretty cool new thing that blogger is doing.  Maybe you already know about it.

It's basically a reader.  You can subscribe to the blogs that you want to keep up with by becoming  a follower.  You can follow publicly or anonymously, it's up to you.  Any time any of the blogs in your following list are updated Blogger will let you know right on your dashboard.  You can actually read them right on your dashboard.

Personally, I've always been a fan of Google Reader, which I would recommend to anyone that has a google address.  (If you have g-mail, you will have a "reader" tab way up at the top of page in between "photos" and "web", that's your google reader, you can subscribe to whatever blogs you want to keep up with, and open your google reader and see which ones have updated and read them right there, or go to the blog itself.)
However, if you don't have G-mail, or you don't like Google Reader, or don't want to use it, or can't figure it out (me before Katie helped me) or just want to try something new, try Blogger's new "Following" feed.  It could definitely be a good thing.

Oh, and I'm noticing that the site meter on the left of the screen isn't working.... not sure what's up with that.  I'll work on it :)

More Wedding "Do's"

"Do" Have Gerber Daisies in bright summer-y colors.  Yummy.  Oh, and orange and fuschia?  Perfectly ok together.  Bonbon colors.  :-)

"DO" pair your gerber daisies with Wax Flower.  Because besides being adorable, they smell amazing.

"Do" have a big wedding party... because, you know, the more the merrier.

"Do" have a styrofoam cake.  It decorates up beautifully, is super cheap and doesn't melt in the heat or fall over at inopportune times.  You can serve sheet cakes instead... no one will ever know.  (P.S. One of these cakes is real for the ceremonial cake cutting... can you guess which one?)  I have to brag about the cake... because my sisters did an amazing job, don't you think? :-)

"Do" make sure the bride loves her flowers before the wedding.  Because we should take as many opportunities as possible to hold bridal bouquets.  It just feels good.
