From Gilbert and Sullivan's ingenius opera "The Pirates of Penzance"
With Cat Like Tread- forte.... :-)
here's the lyrics for anyone that doesn't know them.
PIRATES: With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal;
In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel.
No sound at all! We never speak a word;
A fly's foot-fall Would be distinctly heard--
POLICE: (softly) Tarantara, tarantara!
PIRATES: So stealthily the pirate creeps,
While all the household soundly sleeps.
Come, friends, who plough the sea,
Truce to navigation; Take another station;
Let's vary piracee With a little burglaree!
POLICE: (softly) Tarantara, tarantara!
SAMUEL: (distributing implements to various members of the gang)
Here's your crowbar and your centrebit,
Your life-preserver--you may want to hit!
Your silent matches, your dark lantern seize,
Take your file and your skeletonic keys.
POLICE: Tarantara!
PIRATES: With cat-like tread
POLICE: Tarantara!
PIRATES: in silence dread,
ALL (fortissimo): With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal;
In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel.
No sound at all! We never speak a word;
A fly's foot-fall Would be distinctly heard!
Come, friends, who plough the sea,
Truce to navigation; Take another station;
Let's vary piracee With a little burglaree!
With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal,
In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel.
Another good place to hear this song... if you come over to my house... and all my sisters are there... and if the upstairs neighbor isn't home...

Oh my! I'm greatly amused and I foresee myself watching that quite a bit. :D
This is Maureen from IDD, by the way.
Oh so THAT is where that music comes from! I need to see the whole thing. I've only seen a couple other scenes. Did I spy Angela Lansbury?
~VB
Yep That was her!
Lilly and Lyds and I laughed hard Becca! Thanks for sharing it.
Where......... do you come up with this stuff???
well..... it's Gilbert and Sullivan! And the U did it 2 years ago for their Spring musical! It's really wonderful! I good stress reliever, you laugh the whole time! You should watch/listen to it Dave. But not the supped up version *shudders*
yep, Angela Lansbury!
It's culture, Dave!!!!! Gilbert and Sullivan!!! Remember when we were watching Chariots of Fire and we girls kept bursting into song.... Pirates was very popular about the time of Eric Liddel.
Ahh yes I remember. It was quite disconcerting. In more of the concert-like sort of way...
Disconcerting.... haha very funny. You obviously don't spend enough time at our house. We're always singing! You haven't seen us do Les Mis, (all of it) or Newsies, or ... well you'll just have to find out :)
as if we would sing the entire opera for Dave... I don't think so. We're closed doors performers. No ticket sales.
We are DEFINATLEY closed doors!
