The Storm

  I woke
wondering
if the world was ending
  I huddled in bed
listening
to the back door rattling on it's hinges
watching
the eerie black claws of a tree branch's shadow
dance
to a jumpy
off-skew rhythm
Lightning snapped
too many negative image photographs of my bedroom
I wandered the house
looking
for destruction
I marvelled
that four walls and a roof
create a pocket of safety
in the center of violent passion
This morning
the world is a strange loveliness
like a fantastic reality
like a gift
like sun on glass

So, I have this dream...

Something like Jo March who dreamed of someday writing something that would be "in print."

And even though I have articles and snippets regularly published here and on the IDD Blog

there's just something splendid about writing and writing and editing and tweaking and finally seeing your finished work printed with actual paper and ink and sent to people around the world that you don't know.  Rather exhilarating, to tell the truth!

So, it's not my best work, but it's my first byline and I'm pretty happy :)

Announcing!

My latest project of which I am very proud and super excited!!!

THE IDD BLOG

Some friends and I have started this blog as a way to encourage and minister to other single Christian girls. We plan to have articles on everything from humor, to waiting on the Lord, fashion, book reviews and all sorts of fun, thought provoking, and encouraging subjects.

Here's the mission statement:

The mission of I Don't Date is to provide support, edification and encouragement to all the 'ladies in waiting' that are committed to courtship (dating with a purpose) and are trusting God to direct their future. We provide an online community which seeks to explore the ideas and ideals of courtship while providing Godly fellowship to each other in each of our paths. We seek to “hustle while we wait,” dedicating whatever season of life we are in to God’s glory and our Christian journey.

Please join us and let us know what you think. We'll be posting regularly Monday-Saturday.

heartache

this story

Sunday morning a young girl woke up,
She dressed, had breakfast, and went to church.
She was me.

One thousand miles away another young girl was doing the same thing.
We both drove to church.
We both worshiped with our families.
We both made plans for Monday.
But, I woke up on Monday morning and
she didn't.

Our paths were similar, in fact our paths crossed.
More than 10 years ago we went to the same church.

Today I am sad, because her path has ended.
Abruptly.

Memories of 9/11

Septeber 11th, 2001.

Yes, I remember where I was when I heard. I know what I was wearing.

I remember how it felt to realize the enormity of what was happening.

The tragedy.

The hopelessness.

I felt so helpless.

My first emotion was denial.

Then horror.

At that moment, as I watched the footage on TV

As I took in people screaming, crying,

The death

The despair

I knew that if I could have prevented this massacre

I would have

How to write a screenplay 101

  • Come up with an idea (this is the most difficult step)
  • If you can't come up with an idea for the topic you were supposed to write about.... switch topics with someone else.
  • Get some actors (sometimes actors should be drafted and assigned before you ask them to be in your skit)
  • Find a good filming location. (The location should be accesible to film crews)
and appropiate for your film. For instance...
  • Don't shoot a film about a race in a church
  • Choose your computer wisely. If your computer takes 20 minutes to load your homepage, you probably have NOT chosen wisely
  • Call your big brother and ask him how to write a screenplay
  • Put a pencil behind your ear
  • Write something
  • Take a break to listen to Josh Groban
  • Get back to work
  • Have a read through with your sister
  • Laugh
  • Get back to work
  • Finish (this is the 2nd most difficult step)

Idiots

I normally refrain from using this term. But, after a little discusion on it in the last post, I looked it up.

Here's the definition:
Idiot- An offensive term for somebody who has a psychiatric disorder or a learning problem but who is exceptionally gifted in one particular area, for example, rapid mental calculation, architectural drawing, or remembering facts.

I don't know much about Hemmingway. I never liked anything he wrote, and I know he had some issues. So, I don't know if the term applies or not.

Some people say he is "exceptionally gifted." I wonder if, like beauty, talent is in the eye of the beholder?

Reply to writing post

Um... I didn't really laugh. It was more like... "OH! So, that's what my problem is!" :-)

I think the person that said that was Ernest Hemmingway. I'm not for sure on that, though. Do you remember Tyson?

writing

“Real seriousness in regard to writing is one of two absolute necessities. The other, unfortunately, is talent.”

Don't make me laugh...
