So...

I still haven't finished Lorna Doone.

Am I not pathetic?

I sort of got sidetracked reading Megan Whalen Turner's books.  Which are excellent, by the way.  Except some language.  Ugh.  Too bad.  And these are children's books?!!??? WHAT is the world coming to?
Also, some fantasy.

I don't know.

Also, watching Way. Too. Many Agatha Christie Poirot mysteries.  Not that you can ever watch too many.  Just that, you know, I should maybe be doing other things?

Due to the plunging temps I've recently become interested in soup.  I haven't made any yet, but I was thinking about trying some ham and potato soup.  I'm not a soup connoisseur by any means at all.  My soup making has pretty much been limited to chili.  I know.

So, any suggestions?

Becca, My mom has some really good soup or 'stoup' recipes that she has found from Rachel Ray. My all time favorite is the Chicken Chorizo stoup.
(stoup is what Rachel ray calls 'to thick to be soup but not thick enough to be stew')
I believe most of her recipes are relitivly easy.
we have a recipe book but mom first found her recipes on food network.com
if you find her in the who's cooking and then get to her recipe page and type the Chicken Chorizo stoup in the recipe will come up.
I hope you enjoy and also search some of her other recipes we have found all her recipes to be superb!

Suggestions? Yes! My favorite is taco soup. So yummy with sour cream or shredded cheddar and cornbread. Beef and barley soup is also really good on cold nights.

We just watched Murder on the Orient Express two nights ago. Very intruiging... :)

Ooooooooh! I have the world's most wonderful potato soup recipe! It doesn't have ham though, it has bacon. But it's soooooo good. Definitely comfort food. I can post the recipe on my LJ, actually. ^_^

Our family makes "noodle soup". So yum and perfect if you're sick. Put a whole chicken breast (plus carrots, celery, chicken seasoning, maybe some chicken bouillon cubes, and anything else you might want to enhance flavor) in a pot of water to simmer on the stove for about 4 hours. Strain the soup and add thin noodles.

It's basically a chicken broth with noodles. So yummy and healthy, too! It's the only thing I'll eat when I'm sick.

First, I have to say I LOVE The Thief books!!!

Now, soup:
I tried this recently and mmmmm:

Note that I did not add any half-and-half, and it was just dandy without it. Also, I used Italian Sausage.

And there's this, that I make ALL the time. It's spectacularly wonderful:

I love soup. I hope you find one to enjoy!

So, I'm a bit confused--did you like or not like The Thief? (It is more of a Young Adult book than a children's, which makes the language a bit more acceptable in my eyes.)

Maureen Sorry for any confusion. I DID like The Thief. And I finished Queen too, and liked that one even better. I just thought I should warn people that it does have language. And, language in general just bothers me. It doesn't enhance the book or make the story better. So, it bothers me that it's there. In any book at all.

I'm personally fonder of Queen too, and probably King as well (although I think Queen might be my favorite...the ending is just so perfect). I agree about language, but...I went to public school for eight years. It doesn't bother me that much.

Here's the soup recipe I mentioned. I didn't post it because - I posted it about a year ago!

MARVELOUS Baked Potato Soup
From the kitchen of my pastor's wife... who got it from Taste of Home. ;-)

2/3 C butter
2/3 C flour
7 C milk
4 large potatoes, baked, cooled, peeled and diced. (about 4 cups)
4 green onions, chopped
12 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 1/4 C shredded cheddar cheese
1 C sour cream
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

In a large soup kettle, melt butter (I put the onions in here, I like them well cooked). Wisk in flour, heat and stir until smooth. Gradually add milk. Stir until thickened. Ass potatoes, bring to a boil stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and stir until cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
Makes 2 1/2 quarts, 8-10 servings.
This is even good left-over and re-heated. It's not quite a smooth, but still very tasty.
